This month’s spotlight feature presents MariahDiamond. She graduated from Kent State University and is the creator of the Mariah Diamond brand. Her passion and authenticity have driven her to build a successful business and creating a name for herself.
We recently caught up with MariahDiamond to take a closer look into her journey becoming an influencer and what she’s doing now to make a positive impact on other people’s lives.
What first interested you or got you into fashion?
Mariah: I’ve been into fashion my entire life! You know how some people are born with super-natrual talents like being super smart, or knowing how to play Mozart without sheet music. I knew how to dress, and what matched and what didn’t! My grandmother was a seamstress, and taught me everything I know.
When did you start blogging/ social media, and what was your motivation for getting started?
Mariah: My parents didn’t let me have a social media page until I was like 15 (LOL) so I’d post little pictures here and there, but it wasn’t until I got to college that I really started my influencer journey! I am a fashion media student, and a lot of my courses involved us building out social media platforms. I took full advantage of that, and really made MariahDiamond the Brand a real thing.
Who is your primary audience, and what do you think keeps them coming back to your blog?
Mariah: I cater to the church girl that still wants to be fly! They age anywhere from 12-25. I try to make sure I appeal to everyone, grandma included! I think my authenticity keeps them coming back. I’m not fake, everything you see is real life.
Do you see yourself as an “influencer”, and if so, what does that mean to you?
Mariah: I absolutely see myself as an influencer. At first? No absolutely not. But it wasn’t until my college awarded me as influencer of the year, that I truly saw what being a real influencer was all about. It goes beyond having a million followers, but it turns into how are you influencing those around you to be better? And I think I do a pretty good job doing that.
If you were to give someone advice who is thinking about getting into social media and the world of influencing, what would it be? How about fashion blogging?
Mariah: Be yourself and don’t follow the trends! People draw to authenticity. We like to see the real, not the fake. Clout chasing will not pay your bills, or get you very far. You have to be your true self, and the rest will follow.
What is your ultimate goal for yourself – professional and/or personal?
Mariah: The goal I have for myself is to be happy in life! I want to see everyone around me winning how I am! I am a hope dealer. No one saw me being where I am today 5 years ago, and I have no one but the Lord and my parents to thank for that! The goal is for everyone to eat, not just me!
Tell us about a time when you really impacted someone’s life with your social media content. What was the result? I WOULD PUT THIS UNDER “DO YOU SEE YOURSELF AS AN INFLUENCER…”
Mariah: I had a young lady who was thinking about killing herself, and she told me that the Prayer I posted was the reason she is still here today! A blessing to say the least! God is the real influencer in it all!
Do you have any upcoming events or announcements you wish to share?
Mariah: I just hosted a celebratory brunch titled “Toast at Toast!” where we celebrated each others accomplishments! This Saturday I have an event called “The Cupcakes and Pray Soiree” teaching women how to be women of substance! Other than that, be on the lookout for my website launch, as well as my mentorship program launch!
